Throughout the semester I have learned about many useful Web 2.0 tools. Some, such as YouTube and Weebly, I was already using in my classroom, but many were new to me. There were also several with which I was familiar but had never really thought to use in my teaching. One of the most valuable things I will take away from this course beyond the web tools themselves is the way we were asked to think about how to use the different tools with our students, as this way of thinking will transfer to new tools I discover after this course is over.
Of all the tools that were new to me this semester, wikis have been the most valuable in my teaching. I have used Wikispaces with every one of my classes at some point during the semester with great success. Wikis are easy for the students to use and a great way to get them working collaboratively. I will definitely continue to use wikis in my teaching even after this course is over.
There are also several tools that we explored this semester that I plan to use in the future. I had an Edmodo account prior to this class, but had never used it. This course inspired me to find out how the other teachers in my school are using Edmodo and to start exploring some of the different features of the site. I have also started using both Google Docs and Diigo personally although I have not yet had a reason to use them in the classroom. I enjoyed learning about screencasting and think that this will be very useful in the future. I used Screencast-o-matic earlier in the semester and Jing for the final project and found both easy to use. I plan to start using screencasts in all of my classes next school year.
