1.4 Diffusion of Innovations & Change
Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. (PSC 1.4/ISTE 1d)
Artifact: Action/Evaluation Plan
Reflection:
The Action/Evaluation Plan completed during course ITEC 7410, Instructional Technology Leadership, describes in detail our plan of action for helping our school implement strategies related to technology integration and ISTE’s Essential Conditions. It is based on the needs found by completing a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis for our school. As this course was completed during the summer semester, I completed the Action/Evaluation Plan alone using the SWOT Analysis, Vision Paper, and my knowledge of the school as well as strategies for improving technology integration I have learned throughout this program.
Standard 1.4, Diffusion of Innovations and Change describes a leader’s ability to research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and to manage the change process in schools. In order to complete the Action/Evaluation Plan, I first had to complete a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis to research the areas in which my school needed improvement. I then recommended strategies that could be used to help meet these needs. Each recommendation also includes a timeline for implementation as well as possible funding sources. To further manage the change process, the recommended strategies also include the persons who will be responsible for implementing the strategy as well as how its success will be evaluated.
By completing this artifact I learned to analyze areas of need within my school and set specific goals for improvement. I learned to break these goals down into smaller strategies that could be implemented over the course of the year and to manage the time it would take to do so. To improve the quality of this artifact, I would like to have had input from my principal as to further suggestions for strategies and possible funding sources. Unfortunately, completing this assignment during the summer semester did not allow for this.
Once implemented, this work will greatly impact both faculty development and student learning. This Action/Evaluation Plan focuses mainly on the training of teachers in the use of instructional technology. As the teachers become more comfortable with the technology and begin using it with their students, the impact will begin to be seen in the students’ work. The implementation of this plan will also lead to overall school improvement in communication and collaboration facilitated by technology.
