Artifact: Vision Statement
Reflection:
During the course ITEC 7410, Instructional Technology Leadership, we were asked to create a technology-based vision for our school and outline our goals for achieving that vision. In this Vision Paper we also described the roles that the school’s various stakeholders would play in making this vision a reality in our school. As we completed this work during the summer semester, I worked alone, using my school and district’s technology plans as well as my own personal experiences to create my vision.
Standard 1.1, Shared Vision describes the ability to facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. This artifact demonstrates my ability to both facilitate the development of and the implementation of a shared vision for technology use. Using the knowledge I have gained throughout the Instructional Technology program about integrating technology into the curriculum and my knowledge of how my school is currently using technology, I developed a vision statement and complimentary rationale to enhance teaching and learning in my school. This vision also aligns itself with my school’s vision of preparing students for success in today’s society by integrating technology into a student-centered curriculum that will provide students with life skills they will need to become successful as adults. By describing the roles that the school’s various stakeholders will play, I am also demonstrating my ability to implement this shared vision. The success of this shared vision will depend on the ability of the stakeholders to work together and fulfill their various roles. In order to achieve the vision, everyone must work together and support one another.
As this Vision Paper was completed over the summer, I did not have the opportunity to implement it with the school’s stakeholders at the time it was developed. If given the opportunity to complete this vision during the school year, I would have asked the stakeholders for their input in the creation of the vision statement and rationale as well as the roles they would like to play in order to achieve that vision through the use of a survey.
In completing this artifact, I learned many skills that will help me to become a technology leader within my school. Using the abilities I have learned throughout this program, I was able to ascertain the needs of my school and develop a technology-based vision to help address those needs and improve teaching and learning in my school.
With this vision ready for the next school year, I will be able to implement it with the stakeholders. Its impact can be assessed through classroom observations as well as student work that has been completed with the use of technology. I also hope to use surveys in order to receive feedback from the stakeholders on how the vision and its implementation can be improved for the following school year.
